OPEN AUDITION:
ARVADA CENTER FOR THE ARTS
'LES MISERABLES'



The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities will hold auditions for "Les Miserables" on Monday, June 2 and Wednesday, June 4,2008 at the Arvada Center.

This production will be directed by Arvada Center Artistic Producer Rod A. Lansberry.

Equity EPA auditions will be held in Denver on June 2 from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m.

Open Auditions are by appointment only and can be scheduled by calling (720) 898-7200.

New York chorus auditions will be held on June 9, 2008. New York casting by Gayle Seay of ROSEN AND WOJCIK CASTING.

Experienced performers are needed with strong acting and singing abilities to portray many different characters. Male and female roles 18 to 50 years of age are available, as well as one boy and two girls of approximately 7 to 11 years of age. Must be excellent singers and versatile performers. All physical types and ethnicities are encouraged. Actors should prepare 16 - 32 bars of music from the show or appropriate to the production.

Auditioners should know the complete song, but may only be required to perform 16 bars. Please bring sheet musician accompanist will be provided. No taped music or a capella allowed. A current head shot and resume are required.

Equity members must have a current ID card. This is an Equity LORT B production, although non-equity actors may audition.

Rehearsals for "Les Miserables" begin on August 19, 2008. The show opens September 16 and runs through October 12, 2008, Tuesday through Saturday evenings with matinees on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays for a total of eight shows per week.

The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities is the metro area's seventh largest cultural attraction, devoted to all aspects of the arts and generously supported by the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD).

Character Descriptions for "Les Miserables"
Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities:

  • JEAN VALJEAN -35 to 45. Tenor, low A to high B. Ages from mid-thirties to early fifties over the course of the play. Intelligent, with strong physical and moral strength. Mature and compassionate.
  • JAVERT - 35 to 50s. Baritone A, low F to F sharp. Also ages 17 years from mid-thirties to late forties/early fifties. Rigid and stern with anonymous presence.
  • COSETTE -18 to 25. Soprano, B flat (below Middle C) to High C with belt, must be able to float a B flat, but not operatic-sounding.Beautiful and innocent with purity in her life.
  • FANTINE - 25 to 35. Mezzo-Soprano, low G flat to E flat. Beautiful woman with an angelic demeanor.
  • MARIUS - 25 to 30s. Tenor or High Lyric Baritone, low A to high A flat.Romantic hero. Good looking, young leading man.
  • EPONINE - 20s. Mezzo Belt, low F sharp to E. Child of the streets with a yearning heart.
  • THENARDIER - 30s to 40s. Baritone, C to high G flat. Strong character with comedic ability that can transform to a hidden darker side
  • MADAME THENARDIER - 30s to 40s. Alto/Mezzo Belt, low G sharp to D.Strong character, similar to Thenardier. Unethical but a survivor.
  • ENJORLAS - 20s to 30s. Baritone/Tenor, low A to high G. Charismatic with fierce dedication. Intellectually and physically a leader.
  • GRANTAIRE - 20s to early 30s, Baritone, low A to F. Rough and unpolished, but likable.
  • YOUNG COSETTE/EPONINE - Girls 7 to 11 years old. Soprano. Under 4 feet in height. Sweet and angelic in voice and appearance
  • GAVROCHE - Boys 7 to 11 years old. Under 4 feet in height. Strong-voiced (bigger than should be expected from his size). A small boy with street smarts and spunk.
  • MALE ENSEMBLE - 20s to 40s. Excellent, legit singers who move well with strong acting abilities.
  • FEMALE ENSEMBLE - 20s to 40s. Excellent, legit singers who move well, with strong acting abilities.
