OPEN AUDITION:
Arvada Center for the Arts
"Hollywood Arms"

Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities will hold auditions for Hollywood Arms on Monday, July 21 and Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Arvada Center. This production will be directed by Terry Dodd and produced by Rod A. Lansberry.

Equity auditions will be held on July 21 from 11:00 a.m. – Noon. Open auditions will be held on July 21 from Noon – 3:00 p.m. and July 22 from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Auditions are by appointment only and can be scheduled by calling (720) 898-7200. Auditions will be in Denver only. No out of town auditions are scheduled.

Experienced performers with strong acting abilities are needed. This is an Equity LORT D production, although non-equity actors may audition. Actors should prepare the following: one minute contemporary comedic monologue and one minute contemporary dramatic monologue. Along with two monologues, the roles of Young Helen, Older Helen, Alice and Malcolm must have a song ready to sing a cappella. A classic/standard song is preferred, such as "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows," "Somewhere over the Rainbow" and "Take Back Your Mink." A headshot and resume are required. Equity members must have a current ID card.

Rehearsals for Hollywood Arms begin on October 3, 2008. The show opens October 21, 2008 and runs through November 23, 2008 Tuesday through Saturday evenings with matinees on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays for a total of eight shows per week.

Character Descriptions for Hollywood Arms:
Young Helen – 10 - 15. Young Girl, pint-sized dynamo, winning personality, booming voice, comedic timing in the making (a young Carol Burnett), must be able to sing.

Older Helen – 25 - 30. A young Carol Burnett, comedic, vital, full-of-life, must be able to sing.

Louise – 40 - 50. Struggling to be a writer, distant but loving mom, struggles with the bottle, a mean drunk..

Nanny – 50+. Grandmother, tough, funny, pill-popping, hypochondriac, Christian Scientist.

Bill – 40 - 50. Sweet, nice-guy, simple, decent. Not of this family.

Jody – 40 - 50. Alcoholic, trying to stay on the wagon, sweet-natured, loves his daughter fiercely.Dixie – 35 - 40.

Landlady at the Hollywood Arms, Louise's best friend, colorful yet no-nonsense.

Malcolm – 10 - 15. Boy, loud-mouthed, smart-aleck, best friends with young Helen. Must be able to sing.

Alice – 15 - 20. Helen's younger sister. Somewhat rebellious but basically a good kid. Must be able to sing.
