Men and women of all ages and cultural backgrounds who have physical and/or developmental disabilities are needed for PHAMALY’s Fall 2008 Touring Production, Show Up for Democracy.
PHAMALY will hold auditions and call backs Monday, June 23, 2008 from 5:30-9:30 pm at the Mizel Arts and Culture Center. Performers new to the company and those who have not been in a PHAMALY production in the past four years must schedule an audition between 5:30 and 6:30 pm. Call backs will run from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. If you have performed in a PHAMALY production in the last four years (from Joseph… on), you do not need to audition but must sign up for the call back. The Mizel Arts and Culture Center is located at 350 S. Dahlia St. in Denver.
Auditioners need to prepare one short musical number minimum 16 bars or up to one minute in length and one contemporary (dramatic or musical) monologue up to one minute in length.
Accompaniment will be provided and a cassette/CD player will be available. Resume and headshot are requested. All roles are currently available.
Show Up for Democracy is an original nonpartisan one-act musical that dramatizes the importance of inclusion to the future of democracy. It follows a theatre ensemble, founded in 1776, as it struggles to keep the ‘Show of Democracy’ going. A new member from the next generation challenges the troupe with fresh ideas for the next act. Will the democratic ensemble be able to work together to keep the show going, or will their differences drive them apart? What should our next act be?
